This hotel is situated in the heart of the town centre and is only 2 miles from the A 19 with very easy access to Newcastle Upon Tyne, York and the North Yorkshire moors. Perfect for Durham Airport, just 8 miles away.
All 125 ensuite rooms have satellite tv, direct dial telephone, tea and coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board and trouser press. The rooms are medium in size and in good condition with pastel shades and light wooden furnishings. The rooms are of good standard if not a little tired.

The portcullis restaurant is well-known locally and offers both a la carte and table d'hote menus. The matchmaker brasserie is less formal and is large, airy room with mahogany wood panelling and furniture.
The hotel lobby is medium in size and is decorated with mirrors and light brown shades. There is a long reception desk and a few armchairs. There is enough space for a group to check-in together. A spiral staircase leads to the lounge area.
