Parador
PLAZA DE ARMAS, 14 20280 HONDARRIBIA (GUIPUZCOA), Hondarribia SPAIN, Spain

Dominating the town from its highest point, the Parador rises up in the beautiful Plaza de Armas next to Nuestra Senora del Manzano church in the old quarter of one the most stately town of the Basque Country. 1208AB

The parador of Hondarribia occupies a solid castle which overlooks the Bidasoa estuary. Founded by the navarese king Sancho Abarca, its current appearance dates from the times of Carlos V. Because the castle is situated on the border, it endured numerous sieges and became seriously deteriorated and hence had to be reconstructed.

Elegant bedrooms, picturesque views overlooking the French coast and the sea, which the guest can contemplate from the splendid terrace or from some of the bedrooms, iron lamps and colourful wooden coffered ceilings.

The castle where the parador is located has a quadrangular structure, with a smooth facade. Its small doorway and severe main facade opens onto the exterior via five square windows. Nowadays, the castle/palace is completely restored.

Typical Basque cuisine that is very varied and plentiful. Among the most popular dishes in Guipuzcoa are cocha de merluza (hake barbels), angulas al pil ( elvers al pil) and for dessert, relllenos de vergara.

Decorated keeping the medieval atmosphere mixed with a functional and elegant design.
