This Pousada has changed very little since the days when it was a royal Palace, maintaining many of its original features such as the portraits of Queen Isabel, brass chandeliers and wall tapestries.
The Pousada Rainha Santa Isabel is centrally located within the walls, facing the square with a church, art museum and restaurant.
The bedrooms are large and in very good condition, the style being very traditional in keeping with the rest of the Pousada. The cream, marble bathrooms are also in very good condition.
This Pousada is an old stone building dating back to the 13th century. It was originally a royal Palace and the home of King Dinis, who founded Coimbra university, and his wife Isabel.
The restaurant is a very large cathedral-style room.
The lobby is large and regal with traditional dark wood and marble. To the rear of the lobby there is a large lounge and bar area with panoramic views.
